One set of 8 irons or blades or cutters for a Record 045C combination wood plane as pictured. This is the “B” cutter set, called “CS045B” on the plastic wrap. The “A” set had the smaller plough cutters (not included here). These appear to be NOS or New Old Stock, and never used. Each one has the lacquer coating on it that was done at the factory, and I had to work very patiently and gently to get them unstuck from the plastic holder, because the lacquer had stuck to the plastic. They appear to be identical to Record 405 cutters other than the marking on the plastic holder. All of the cutters are marked “RECORD” and with their size. All of them have the notch in the upper corner, similar to Stanley. Overall lengths are 3-9/16, plus or minus roughly a 16th. 2 plough cutters — 5/8″, and 7/8″. 5 beading cutters — 1/8″, 3/16″, 1/4″, 3/8″, and 1/2. 1 tongue cutter 1/4 with its depth stop. And the plastic wrap which is marked in part “RECORD MARPLES CS045B MADE IN ENGLAND BAHCO RECORD TOOLS LTD PARKWAY WORKS SHEFFIELD ENGLAND”. Condition of the cutters is excellent, appearing to be NOS or New Old Stock, and each one still has its lacquer coating visible on the sharp edge. Condition of the plastic wrap is excellent, except that there are some remnants of the lacquer coating stuck to the plastic. It has a few creases, and I don’t see any slices in it, which is amazing. Also included are the 4 cutter boxes and 4 lids, and the lids have the metal clips on both ends. Earlier 55 planes came with 52 cutters, and later 55 planes came with 55 cutters, with 4 added and 1 deleted to get to 55. This is an earlier set, but I’m missing three cutters — the filletster, the slitter, and the number 64. The #29 beading cutter was deleted when Stanley went from 52 to 55, and it is included with this set. They are photographed in box order (Cutter Box 1, Cutter Box 2, etc) in the pictures of the cutters. Most of these came to me as a set, generally in very good condition, but I added some cutters to fill it out, and some of the added cutters are not in the same condition. All of the cutters, except for the dado or plow cutters, have the Stanley number on them. Condition of the cutters is mostly very good, and many are bright and shiny as can be seen. Some have some patina (color) but only three — #55, #95, and #113 — have some pitting with the most pitting on the #55. The sash cutter has its depth stop, while the match cutter does not. Condition of the boxes is fair to good. They are all original Stanley boxes and lids, not reproductions, but the lids haven’t faded exactly the same as the boxes. So the lids may not be original to these particular boxes. The box labels are mostly intact, with some fading on the upper part of the labels on boxes 1 and 3, and more general fading on the labels on boxes 2 and 4. Some of the end clips are rusty, and some of the boxes especially box 1 have some nail holes on the ends. The winner gets all 49 cutters and all 4 boxes and lids! One set of 54 cutters for a Stanley 55 wood plane as pictured. Also included are the 4 cutter boxes and 4 lids, although they have some condition issues. Earlier 55 planes came with 52 cutters, and later 55 planes came with 55 cutters, with 4 added and 1 deleted to get to 55. This is the later set, but I’m missing the # 18-1/2 cutter which is a 13/16 dado and one of the four added cutters. The other three cutters that were added to get from 52 to 55 are the #40 and #41 chamfer cutters, and the #6 3/16 match cutter, and those three cutters are included. The #29 beading cutter was deleted when Stanley went from 52 to 55, and it is not included with this set. They are photographed in box order (Cutter Box 1, Cutter Box 2, etc) in the pictures of the cutters. The slitter was counted by Stanley as one of the cutters in the set, and although it didn’t fit in the box it is shown on Box 3. This came to me as 40 cutters with Boxes 1, 3, and 4. They have the proper labels for the later 55 cutter set. I added in Box 2 which doesn’t have any label at all, and added in 14 cutters to fill that box except for the # 18-1/2 as noted. Condition of the cutters is very good. I didn’t do any cleaning, this is exactly how they came to me, and some would look even better with a light cleaning. The cutters in Box 2, which are the ones I added in, have the most variation in condition, but I tried to pick nice cutters for that box. The sash cutter does not have a depth stop, but both match cutters have their depth stops. Condition of the boxes is fair on average. They are original boxes and lids. Box 1 — the wood is split out and missing on one end of the lid, so there is nothing for the latch to attach to on one side of that end. The label is dark and dirty with some scratches or bits missing, especially about where cutters 113 and 115 are pictured. Both lid latches are present. Box 2 — this is the added box, with no label. Both lid latches are present but rusty. Box 3 — the label is dark and dirty with some missing pieces especially around the edges. Box 4 — only one lid latch is present, the other lid latch is mostly broken off and missing. The label is a bit cleaner than the other two but has some missing pieces especially at both ends. The winner gets all 5 cutters and all 4 boxes and lids! I sell what I enjoy, and I collect antique woodworking tools and I enjoy photography! One set of 52 cutters for a Stanley 55 wood plane as pictured. Also included are the 4 cutter boxes and 4 lids, although one lid is quite warped. Earlier 55 planes came with 52 cutters, and later 55 planes came with 55 cutters, with 4 added and 1 deleted to get to 55. This is an earlier set with all 52 cutters that would have come in the set, and they are photographed in box order (Cutter Box 1, Cutter Box 2, etc) in the pictures of the cutters. The slitter was counted by Stanley as one of the cutters in the set. Cutter #29, which was deleted in later sets, is included in this set. This came to me as 49 cutters, with 3 missing, and I added in those 3. In addition, 1 of the 49 appears to have been added in as well, as it doesn’t match the other 48. The added cutters are #115, #22, #222, and #32. The #222 that I added is really rough, but it was all I had. Condition of 48 of the 52 cutters is all very similar. They all have quite a bit of pitting on both sides, and they have been cleaned by the prior owner, with the machined sides all having a very polished appearance. The 4 added cutters are pretty easy to pick out in the pictures, as they don’t have that polished appearance. Three are in good condition, with a bit of pitting, while again the #222 is quite rough and heavily pitted. The boxes are quite dark and stained, and have a bit of an odor to them that is probably a wood stain or finish coating of some sort. A prior owner has hand written the box number on 3 of the boxes, and none of the boxes have any sort of label remaining. They also have some spots of glue from old repairs. One lid, on the far left in the last picture, is quite warped. The winner gets all 52 cutters and all 4 boxes and lids! On one lot of fifty (50) irons or blades or cutters for a Stanley Number 55 combination wood plane as pictured. The majority of the cutters have their number on them, and if they have their number on them, it is noted below. Bottom row left to right. 9 beading cutters 1/8″ to 1/2″, plus #28 (5/8″) and #29 (3/4″). 10 dado or plow cutters 1/8″ to 1/2″, plus 5/8″, 3/4″, and 7/8. 1 filletster cutter 1-1/4. Middle row left to right. 1 sash cutter no depth stop. 1 match cutter #5 no depth stop. 4 fluting cutters #32, #34, #36, and #38. 8 hollow and round cutters #43, #44, #45, #47, #53, #54, #55, and #57. Back row left to right. Cutters which are #62, #64, #73, #75, #82, #84, #86, #93, #102, #104, #106, #212, #222, and #232. And in the very back. 4 cutter boxes with their lids. Earlier 55’s came with 52 cutters, and later 55’s came with 55 cutters. This is an earlier set, with two cutters missing, which are #95 and the slitter. To get from the earlier set of 52 cutters to the later set of 55 cutters you would add in #18-1/2 (dado), #6 (match), #40 (chamfer), #41 (chamfer), and delete #29. Which is why you don’t see #29 as often as the other beading cutters. Cutter #64 doesn’t have its notch, but is about the same length as the others. Cutter #45 has a bit of one tip broken off. Other than those two issues, condition of the cutters is varied, but generally at least good. Some would rate very good, and some have quite a bit of rust. Only a couple are going to have any pitting beyond some faint pitting, with #28 having the most pitting. All of them would benefit from a cleaning. Condition of the cutter boxes is good, although the labels are pretty worn. (but see below if you are in Canada). I sell what I enjoy, and I collect antique woodworking tools and I enjoy photography!
