Some of these I used one time while making the tenons of a stool, some other I only used them to test cut when I first got them. The veritas tenon cutters are in the 3/8″ and 5/8″ sizes. And the 3/8 is a tapered cutter. The veritas tapered reamers are one big and one small. The angle of the big one is 12.8 degrees and can ream out an existing hole of between 7/16 and 1 3/16 in diameter. The smaller reamer (3/16″-3/4″) also has an angle of 12.8 degrees. It will match the angle of the tapered tenon cutter. And the ray Illes rounding plane is the 1 size.

Back ordered til March! For anyone building rustic furniture, our aluminum-body tenon cutters will cut smooth, perfect tenons with radiused shoulders. Cutters are designed to run vibration-free while being driven by an electric drill, yet still yield the same accuracy when used with a hand brace. The anodized body has been balanced to eliminate vibration and an integral level vial makes in-line cutting more accurate. To increase safety, the back end of the blade is contoured to avoid anything extending beyond the revolving aluminum body. The body has a built-in honing guide for easy sharpening of blades on a drill-press mounted drum sander. The blade is adjustable to cut the exact size of tenon required in both dry and green wood. Sizes 5/8″ to 1″ cut 2 3/4 long tenons and are typically used for most rustic furniture. Sizes 1 1/4″ to 2″ will cut 4 1/4 long tenons and are used for larger structural connections, such as bed frame to post, or fence rail to post. All sizes have hex shanks; sizes 5/8″ to 1″ are for use in an electric drill with a 3/8 (or larger) chuck. Sizes 1 1/4″ to 2″, which require more torque to drive, are for use in larger electric drills with a 1/2 (or larger) chuck. Not for use in a drill press. As many things as I find, very few are this special. This is a set of all 5 Veritas tapered tenon cutters – 3/8″, 7/16″, 1/2″, 9/16″ and 5/8. All except the 3/8 have the box, the instructions and the little allen wrench. These are very substantial tools. They weigh in at 12 ounces and up. 090 (11 gauge) thick. All of the blades are factory sharp, never sharpened. The 3/8 tool had some use, which is why I included a picture of the back (fourth picture). If the others had use, it was minimal. The blade on the 5/8 tool has some purely cosmetic surface staining (eighth picture). I backed out the blades to check them and for the pictures. You will need to adjust the blades for use. From the Lee Valley website. Our tapered tenon cutters will put tapered tenons on the tips of turnings, dowels or rustic furniture components to fit into tapered holes for example, legs and spindles on a Windsor chair. Use the cutter like a hand-held pencil sharpener; you either rotate the workpiece while pressing it into the cutter body or you can rotate the tool on the workpiece. Works equally well in soft, green or hard woods. Although the body design is similar to our Veritas dowel and tenon cutters, the cut is quite different. When a tenon is fed through the body, the straight-edged blade tapers the ends, whereas the curved blade on our dowel cutters cuts cylindrical tenons with a radiused shoulder. Please note, the curved blade (for dowel making) should be used with only the three smallest sizes of tenon cutters (05J61.04, 05J61.05 and 05J61.06). The size given for each cutter is the minimum tenon diameter it will cut the maximum is 1/2″ greater, over a total tenon length of 2-1/2″. A starter kit of the 3/8″, 1/2″ and 5/8 sizes will cover most tenoning requirements for typical chairmaking. Some longer tenons may require cutting the major diameter with a larger cutter, and then finishing with a smaller cutter; if you have all five sizes you will be able to cut any diameter tenon up to 1-1/8″ in diameter and as long as 2″ in a single operation. Snug plug cutters cut a slightly tapered plug. Metric set of 3 includes; 6, 8 and 10mm. Flares out at 3° angle. Sometimes when plugging holes, no matter how carefully drilled, the holes finish up slightly oversize for the plug, especially in soft woods. These cabinet maker’s snug plug cutters overcome this by cutting a slightly tapered plug. The first 3mm of the plug is the diameter stated whilst the remaining length is then flared out at an angle of 3°. Just tap the plug into place until you meet resistance then cut off the excess. Also, unlike regular plug cutters which have two cutting flutes, these plug cutters have four, giving a much cleaner cut and a smooth-sided plug which fits perfectly every time and is practically invisible.
