This is beautiful just as something to set around even if you never intend to use it. It has a gorgeous patina. Imagine all the leaves that were actually made with this. This is a really rare 3 piece set that’s complete. This makes a single rose leaf. First, there is the cutter. It’s 4 3/4 inches long and the cutter head is about 1 1/4 inches across and 2 3/4 inches long. Still sharp and ready to use. The cutter is made of iron. There is also a 2 part leaf mold complete with top and bottom. The bottom part is made of iron and is 7 1/2 inches long including the wood handle. The top is about 2 1/2 inches long and 1 1/2 inches across and 3/4 inch deep of solid brass. When the top veiner and bottom are put together it’s 1 1/2 inches thick. This makes a leaf with 3 distinct tips. This is quite usable and you could actually cut and form a leaf today exactly how it was done years ago. Wonderful also just for display. Has a great patina. If you wanted you could polish the brass to its original color and clean up the iron bottom. The 2 pieces together weigh just about 2 pounds so this is a substantial and serious tool. This set is beautiful just as something to set around even if you never intend to use it. It has a gorgeous patina. Imagine all the fish that were actually made with this. This is a really rare 5 piece set that’s complete. It will make both sides of the same fish so you could put them together and make a 3-dimensional fish. You could use this with heavy paper also. This mold set was used professionally about 100 years ago. It is a serious set of tools. The entire set weighs twenty pounds. The cutter is iron and the fish molds are bronze for the bottom piece and iron for the top piece (top piece has the handle). They have a wonderful patina but you could polish them to look new if you wanted. If you plan on using these the cutter might need sharpening. Or you might just need a heavier mallet. Use a mallet that weighs at least 10 pounds. Layers of fabric were cut at the same time. These are in excellent condition but there are spots that have worn through on the back of the fish. It won’t affect what you’re making and you’re likely not going to wear them out even if you used them day in and day out the rest of your life. These were likely used for many years day in and day out to make 1000’s of fish. I’m really not sure what role fish played in hats or if they were used in hats at all. It’s a really unusual set. The fish are 2 1/2 inches by 7 inches without the handle. Adding the handle they’re 13 inches. The bronze bottom part of the mold is an inch thick and the cast iron top of the mold is two inches thick. The cutter is 7 by 2 1/2 and from top to bottom 6 inches. Makes an incredibly detailed fish.
