This is beautiful just as something to set around even if you never intend to use it. It has a gorgeous patina. Imagine all the leaves that were actually made with this. This is a really rare 3 piece set that’s complete. Makes a huge deeply embossed tropical leaf. Last photo shows the type of leaf this makes but this piece of material was just used between the two parts in storage. This will work great on velvet. First, there is the cutter. It’s 8 pounds alone! It’s 5 inches tall and the cutter head is about 5 inches across and 7 inches long. Please note that it’s not like cutting out cookies. You’ll need a heavy rubber mallet and a LOT of force The cutter is made of iron. There is also a 2 part leaf mold complete with top and bottom. The bottom part is made of I believe aluminum so it won’t rust and is 4 inches wide by 11 inches long including the wood handle. It’s almost 1 1/2 inches thick. The bronze top is 4 1/2 by 7 inches. It’s one inch thick. When you put the top and bottom together it’s 1 3/4th inch thick. The 2 piece mold with handle weighs 6 pounds. Together this weighs 14 pounds. There is line all along one side of the cutter that looks like it was either a repair or this happened during manufacturing. I’m more inclined to believe it happened during manufacturing since I don’t see evidence of welding. It has been used for a very long time like this and I didn’t see it until I cleaned some of the dust and dirt off. Look at some of the last photos. This is quite usable and you could actually cut and form a leaf today exactly how it was done years ago.

The deep indentations are great for velvet fabric. First, there is the cutter. It’s 4 3/4 inches tall and the cutter head is about 2 3/4 inches across and 3 inches long. Please note that it’s not like cutting out cookies. You’ll need a heavy rubber mallet and a LOT of force The cutter is made of iron. There is also a 2 part leaf mold complete with top and bottom. The bottom part is made of I believe iron and is 2 1/2 inches wide by 8 3/4 inches long including the wood handle. It’s one inch thick. The bronze top is 3 by 3 inches. When you put the top and bottom together it’s 1 3/4th inch thick. You could clean this up a bit more and have it as shiny as the day it was made if you like. I think there is still a bit of fabric lint clinging to the indentations of the mold.

This set is beautiful just as something to set around even if you never intend to use it. It has a gorgeous patina. Imagine all the fish that were actually made with this. This is a really rare 5 piece set that’s complete. It will make both sides of the same fish so you could put them together and make a 3-dimensional fish. You could use this with heavy paper also. This mold set was used professionally about 100 years ago. It is a serious set of tools. The entire set weighs twenty pounds. The cutter is iron and the fish molds are bronze for the bottom piece and iron for the top piece (top piece has the handle). They have a wonderful patina but you could polish them to look new if you wanted. If you plan on using these the cutter might need sharpening. Or you might just need a heavier mallet. Use a mallet that weighs at least 10 pounds. Layers of fabric were cut at the same time. These are in excellent condition but there are spots that have worn through on the back of the fish. It won’t affect what you’re making and you’re likely not going to wear them out even if you used them day in and day out the rest of your life. These were likely used for many years day in and day out to make 1000’s of fish. I’m really not sure what role fish played in hats or if they were used in hats at all. It’s a really unusual set. The fish are 2 1/2 inches by 7 inches without the handle. Adding the handle they’re 13 inches. The bronze bottom part of the mold is an inch thick and the cast iron top of the mold is two inches thick. The cutter is 7 by 2 1/2 and from top to bottom 6 inches. Makes an incredibly detailed fish. The cutter is made of iron. There is also a 2 part leaf mold complete with top and bottom. The bottom part is made of iron and is 6 1/2 inches long including the wood handle. The top is about 2 inches long and 1 1/4inches across and 1 inch deep of solid brass. When the top veiner and bottom are put together it’s 1 1/2 inches thick. This makes a leaf with 3 distinct tips. The brass top has a crack which is pictured. There is also a crack in the wood handle. This should still work just as it was intended. This is quite usable and you could actually cut and form a leaf today exactly how it was done years ago. Wonderful also just for display. Has a great patina. If you wanted you could polish the brass to its original color and clean up the iron bottom. The 2 pieces together weigh just about 2 pounds so this is a substantial and serious tool.
