A SET OF FIVE ORIGINAL CUTTING IRONS for the Kendall & Rose Patent “Third Model” Windsor beader by the Windsor Manufacturing Company, Windsor, Vermont. The earlier versions employed a wheel having various cutting edges that could be rotated into position for use. The Kendall & Vose version had a series of cutters that were secured by a screw at the base of the beader where the cutting took place. The concept was that the cutters not in use could be secured inside the frame when one cutter was extended for use. As a practical matter, however, loosening the screw made all of the cutting irons loose, whereupon they fell out and they were then stored separately or lost. Consequently, at least 80% of the examples of the Third Model that are found have only one or no cutting irons. If you have a Kendall & Vose Patent version of the Windsor beader in need of cutters, these will put you back in business directly. Length = 1.88 Inches Ref. Included are a single reed cutter, a 2 reed cutter, a 3 reed cutter, a 4 reed cutter, and a 5 reed cutter as can be seen. 1/4 is the width of the cut for each reed. Overall lengths are between 3-7/16″ and 3-11/16″ for all five cutters. The four wider cutters are each marked “RECORD MADE IN ENGLAND”, and the single cutter is marked “RECORD 1/4 (6.4MM)”. The double reed cutter does not have the notch to engage the adjuster. That seems to happen every so often on Record cutters. Except for that, these will function properly on Stanley 45 and 55 wood planes. Condition of all five is otherwise very good, fairly bright and shiny, with a variety of fine or small scratches. The back sides have had some slight flattening, and the double reed has a hint of patina (color). Some of the edges show the original casting. I sell what I enjoy, and I collect antique woodworking tools and I enjoy photography! The queue is overflowing with tools right now, as they seem to be finding me faster than I can list them.
