Up for sale is a huge set of patternmaker’s tools. Includes a brass/bronze jack plane with 4 interchangeable soles and 3 cutters, a neat block plane in aluminum and brass with an extra long back handle, a No. 71 style router in aluminum, a set of fillet irons, and a few fillet iron casts (I believe). All in great condition and usable. Do note that not all soles and cutters for the jack plane match up. A great set of tools from a rapidly shrinking trade. This is beautiful just as something to set around even if you never intend to use it. It has a gorgeous patina. Imagine all the leaves that were actually made with this. This is a really rare 3 piece set that’s complete. Makes a huge deeply embossed tropical leaf. Last photo shows the type of leaf this makes but this piece of material was just used between the two parts in storage. This will work great on velvet. First, there is the cutter. It’s 8 pounds alone! It’s 5 inches tall and the cutter head is about 5 inches across and 7 inches long. Please note that it’s not like cutting out cookies. You’ll need a heavy rubber mallet and a LOT of force The cutter is made of iron. There is also a 2 part leaf mold complete with top and bottom. The bottom part is made of I believe aluminum so it won’t rust and is 4 inches wide by 11 inches long including the wood handle. It’s almost 1 1/2 inches thick. The bronze top is 4 1/2 by 7 inches. It’s one inch thick. When you put the top and bottom together it’s 1 3/4th inch thick. The 2 piece mold with handle weighs 6 pounds. Together this weighs 14 pounds. There is line all along one side of the cutter that looks like it was either a repair or this happened during manufacturing. I’m more inclined to believe it happened during manufacturing since I don’t see evidence of welding. It has been used for a very long time like this and I didn’t see it until I cleaned some of the dust and dirt off. Look at some of the last photos. This is quite usable and you could actually cut and form a leaf today exactly how it was done years ago.

Minimum cut diameter 7.75″ maximum cut diameter 10.625″ Comes complete with 1 TIN Coated TNMG 432 carbide insert, 2 insert screws and 1 1/2-20 socket head cap screw to mount the cutter body to your shell mill / face mill holder. Cutter body fits on a 1″ shell mill arbor with 3/8″ key. Using a scrap practice head made of the same material you intend to cut, is recommended to help you to fine tune your feed and spindle speed rates for your machine. Once the rpm and feed rates have been established one or 2 light passes will get the job done fast. A single TNMG insert should last through many projects. In many cases this tool will eliminate the need for surface or Blanchard grinding, and is great for 1 pass per side squaring of workpieces. The bar is adjustable and reversible and can be used to cut inside of clevises and the underside of overhanging work pieces. If bar is reversed the spindle must be run in reverse (ccw) Can be used to finish bore the id of large diameter holes from 7.69″ to 10.625″.
