This is beautiful just as something to set around even if you never intend to use it. It has a gorgeous patina. Imagine all the leaves that were actually made with this. This is a really rare 3 piece set that’s complete. Makes a large Holly leaf. At first I was a little puzzled and thought it might be a Maple leaf but then saw a little bit of silver foil clinging to the mold and realized it had been used with silver foil paper to make Christmas Holly leaves. You don’t have to always use fabric with the molds. You can use foil paper or other papers. Just experiment a little. First, there is the cutter. It’s 5 inches tall and the cutter head is about 4 inches across and 3 1/2 inches long. Please note that it’s not like cutting out cookies. You’ll need a heavy rubber mallet and a LOT of force The cutter is made of iron. There is also a 2 part leaf mold complete with top and bottom. The bottom and top parts are made of I believe bronze. Top is 4 inches wide by 9 inches long including the wood handle. It’s 1 1/4 inches thick. The bronze bottom is 4 1/2 by 3 1/2 inches. It’s one inch thick. When you put the top and bottom together it’s 1 3/4th inch thick. You could clean this up a bit more and have it as shiny as the day it was made if you like. I do put a light coating of beeswax on it to keep any iron parts from rusting.

When you put the top and bottom together it’s almost1 3/4th inch thick. The handle is a little loose and if you pull it out and put a little glue in that should go a long ways towards holding it. You could clean this up a bit more and have it as shiny as the day it was made if you like. I do put a light coating of beeswax on it to keep any iron parts from rusting.

To use the disc cutter, remove all punches from the block, and select the size punch you would like. Place your sheet metal in the slot and place your punch, sharp side against the metal, in the correct slot. Strike the beveled side of the punch with a heavy mallet until it pieces through the sheet metal. Be careful of your fingers and other items on your work surface. We recommend using a brass mallet 1lb. Preferred or dead blow to prevent damage to your disc cutter. You should also use Pro-Cut lube to reduce friction and wear on your punches. IMPORTANT: Always position a shim of the same thickness of the metal being cut directly across from the metal in the disc cutter block. This keeps the plates balanced and helps ensure a nice clean cut.

This makes a leaf with 3 distinct tips. This is quite usable and you could actually cut and form a leaf today exactly how it was done years ago. Wonderful also just for display. Has a great patina. If you wanted you could polish the brass to its original color and clean up the iron bottom. The 2 pieces together weigh just about 2 pounds so this is a substantial and serious tool. Last photo shows the type of leaf this makes but this piece of material was just used between the two parts in storage. This will work great on velvet. First, there is the cutter. It’s 8 pounds alone! It’s 5 inches tall and the cutter head is about 5 inches across and 7 inches long. Please note that it’s not like cutting out cookies. You’ll need a heavy rubber mallet and a LOT of force The cutter is made of iron. There is also a 2 part leaf mold complete with top and bottom. The bottom part is made of I believe aluminum so it won’t rust and is 4 inches wide by 11 inches long including the wood handle. It’s almost 1 1/2 inches thick. The bronze top is 4 1/2 by 7 inches. It’s one inch thick. When you put the top and bottom together it’s 1 3/4th inch thick. The 2 piece mold with handle weighs 6 pounds. Together this weighs 14 pounds. There is line all along one side of the cutter that looks like it was either a repair or this happened during manufacturing. I’m more inclined to believe it happened during manufacturing since I don’t see evidence of welding. It has been used for a very long time like this and I didn’t see it until I cleaned some of the dust and dirt off. Look at some of the last photos. This is quite usable and you could actually cut and form a leaf today exactly how it was done years ago.
