Also included is the original wood box. All of the cutters except for the tongue or match cutter are marked with their nominal widths, which are 5/16″, 3/8″, 1/2″, 5/8″, 13/16″, 1-1/4″ and 1-1/2. The gap on the tongue cutter is about 1/4 in width. The box is not marked. Condition of the cutters is very good, reasonably clean and bright with some scattered bits of patina or light rust, and a few tiny spots of faint pitting. Condition of the box is good, other than the large chip at the upper edge of the main part of the box. It shows wear along the sharp corners and where the little nails are that hold it together. Both clips for the lid are intact and original. This is not a complete set of all the cutters made for the 46, but these are nicer thanmany, ans this set includes the hard to find 13/16! For a Stanley Number 45 or 55 wood plane as pictured. Cutting widths are 3/16″ to 1/2″ by 16ths, plus 5/8″ and 3/4″. Overall width of each cutter is about 1/8 wider than the cutting or profile width. The 6 smaller cutters are not marked, and the two larger cutters are marked “28” and “29”. These all have the Stanley notch in the upper corner to engage the adjuster, and all are original Stanley cutters. These will not interchange with Sargent planes, as Sargent cutters used different notches. Overall lengths of the cutters are all between 3-9/16″ and a hair over 3-5/8″. The 3/16″ to 1/2″ cutters would have been standard cutters for the Stanley 45 plane. All of the cutters would have been standard cutters for an early Stanley 55 plane, but the the 3/4 cutter (#29) was deleted on later 55 planes, and is more scarce than the other widths. Condition of all 8 is good to very good. They all have some patina (color) and light rust, with the rust mostly out at the tips or in the profile area. The 3/16 has been resharpened, while the others all appear to still be the factory grind. I don’t have the 1/8 cutter, which would make the full set for the early 55 planes. These are the thicker irons used on the 41 through 44 planes, and these are NOT the thinner irons used on the 141 and 143 planes. Included are five dado or plow irons, and each is marked with it size — 1/4″, 5/16″, 3/8″, 1/2″, and 5/8. Also included is the one tongue or match iron, which has an opening of very close to 1/4. It is not marked, as expected. All 6 of the irons are original Stanley irons, and all have the proper groove. And also included is the original wood box, although it has been modified a bit. Please see the discussion below. Overall lengths of the irons are all between 3-1/4″ and 3-3/8″ for the five dado irons, and about 3-7/16 for the match iron. Condition of the 6 irons is good, reasonably clean but with some patina (color) and some tiny scattered little spots of pitting. Both of the inside end pieces on the box lid are not original, especially the piece that sticks down into the box. That piece is actually cracked as shown. The lid also has two pins that stick up to receive some sort of a catch, but the box doesn’t have any latches or catches. The main part of the box has several cracks, and two small pieces at the open end have chipped off and are missing. The inside end pieces may or may not be original, I can’t tell for certain. There are some small nails that have probably been added, and there are several empty nail holes. There is no evidence of any sort of a label on the box. The cutters are not marked, but many of them are quite distinctive in shape. The Lewin plane is an interesting plane, and is a British copy of a Stanley 45 with (in my opinion) an emphasis on function over form or aesthetics. The typical Stanley 45 cutter is just under 1/8 thick, these cutters average about. 130″ thick (plus of minus a few thousandths) or just over 1/8″. 5 bead or beading cutters, with nominal cutting widths of 1/8″, 3/16″, 1/4″, 3/8″, and 1/2. The 3/8″ and 1/2″ are about a 32nd undersize. 10 dado or plow cutters, with widths of 1/8″ through 1/2″ by 16ths, and 5/8″, 3/4″, and 7/8. 1 filletster cutter with a width of 1-1/4. And 2 match or tongue cutters with widths of 3/16″ and 1/4″. Both have their proper depth stops. Overall length of each cutter is between 3-1/2″ and 3-5/8″. All of the cutters have the notch in the upper corner, similar to a Stanley notch. Will these cutters fit in your Stanley 45? I tried them in a couple of 45’s, the cutters fit in the slot ok, but I had to back out the clamp quite a bit farther to get them to fit, compared to clamping a Stanley cutter. Condition of all 18 is very good to excellent, reasonably bright and shiny, with some bits of patina (color) here and there, and some tiny bits of pitting on a couple of the cutters. They have all been resharpened at some time in the past, and will want a light sharpening. I sell what I enjoy, and I collect antique woodworking tools and. All of the cutters are either marked “RECORD” or “RECORD MADE IN ENGLAND TUNGSTEN STEEL” depending on how much room there is on the cutter for the mark. 3 quarter round cutters, with a cutting radius either 1/4″, 5/16″, or 3/8. 8 fluting cutters, with nominal widths of 3/16″ to 1/2″ by 16ths, plus 5/8″ and 3/4″. 4 reed or reeding cutters, cutting 1/8 reeds, and cutting either 2, 3, 4, or 5 reeds. 4 reed or reeding cutters, cutting 3/16 reeds, and cutting either 2, 3, 4, or 5 reeds. 4 reed or reeding cutters, cutting 1/4 reeds, and cutting either 2, 3, 4, or 5 reeds. Condition of all 23 is good to very good, except for the 4 reed 1/4 cutter, which has a broken tooth at one end. They have all been cleaned by a prior owner, so they have some fine scratches, and there are some scattered little spots of rust on some of the cutters. The Record notches and the Stanley notches interchange, so these will fit on a Stanley 45 or 55 plane. I sell what I enjoy, and I collect antique woodworking tools and I enjoy photography!
