VG “Miller’s Patent” Stanley # 41-44 Cutters w/Extras. This is a nice old set of plane cutters. It is the hard to find set of thick “Miller’s Patent” early cutters which includes the small ones which are usually missing. It also includes some owner modified ones which they obviously used. This cutters could hardly look better but I will leave that up to the next owner. What you see is what you get. These nice sets are not common and this one is still very good. This is not Walmart. If you are not lucky enough to live out here, you can check into M-WTCA, Mid-West Tool Collectors Assn. There is also the PAST group in California. I have tried to show all this in the pictures but, should you have any questions, ask me. Please give me a little time to respond. I do make mistakes and have overlooked things in the past. There is extra paperwork, an additional 10 miles of driving and a wait in line of up to 45 minutes at the Post Office.

These are the thicker irons used on the 41 through 44 planes, and these are NOT the thinner irons used on the 141 and 143 planes. Included are five dado or plow irons, and each is marked with it size — 1/4″, 5/16″, 3/8″, 1/2″, and 5/8. Also included is the one tongue or match iron, which has an opening of very close to 1/4. It is not marked, as expected. All 6 of the irons are original Stanley irons, and all have the proper groove. And also included is the original wood box, although it has been modified a bit. Please see the discussion below. Overall lengths of the irons are all between 3-1/4″ and 3-3/8″ for the five dado irons, and about 3-7/16 for the match iron. Condition of the 6 irons is good, reasonably clean but with some patina (color) and some tiny scattered little spots of pitting. Both of the inside end pieces on the box lid are not original, especially the piece that sticks down into the box. That piece is actually cracked as shown. The lid also has two pins that stick up to receive some sort of a catch, but the box doesn’t have any latches or catches. The main part of the box has several cracks, and two small pieces at the open end have chipped off and are missing. The inside end pieces may or may not be original, I can’t tell for certain. There are some small nails that have probably been added, and there are several empty nail holes. There is no evidence of any sort of a label on the box. I sell what I enjoy, and I collect antique woodworking tools and I enjoy photography! The queue is overflowing with tools right now, as they seem to be finding me faster than I can list them. A SET OF FIVE ORIGINAL CUTTING IRONS for the Kendall & Rose Patent “Third Model” Windsor beader by the Windsor Manufacturing Company, Windsor, Vermont. The earlier versions employed a wheel having various cutting edges that could be rotated into position for use. The Kendall & Vose version had a series of cutters that were secured by a screw at the base of the beader where the cutting took place. The concept was that the cutters not in use could be secured inside the frame when one cutter was extended for use. As a practical matter, however, loosening the screw made all of the cutting irons loose, whereupon they fell out and they were then stored separately or lost. Consequently, at least 80% of the examples of the Third Model that are found have only one or no cutting irons. If you have a Kendall & Vose Patent version of the Windsor beader in need of cutters, these will put you back in business directly. Length = 1.88 Inches Ref. I have only seen sets of 8 but this does have 9 cutters. I haven’t touched these as far as restoration goes but you could make them look really good. All are just over 1/4 thick. These are too thick to fit a Number 141 or 143. 7 dado cutters which are marked with their sizes, and which are unmodified. They are 1/8″, 3/16″, 1/4″, 5/16″, 3/8″, 7/16″, and 5/8. 2 dado cutters which have been modified. One is not marked, and it started out as a 1/2 cutter and is modified into a quarter round shape. The other is marked “1/2″, and it is still 1/2 in width at the sharp edge but both sides have been beveled. 1 tongue or match cutter with a 1/4 gap, that is not marked. And an owner made wood box. Condition of the cutters other than the modifications is generally good, with lots of patina (color) and some little spots of rust and pitting. The quarter round cutter has the most rust and pitting. The match cutter has a casting flaw as can be seen, but it is very close to the surface. Condition of the box is good, other than it has some paint overspray to clean off. The winner gets all 10 cutters! I sell what I enjoy, and I collect antique woodworking tools and.
