Charles Schmidt window sash cutter set. Set can produce tenons up to 2- 1/4 long. Set is designed to produce single strength bead glass. Sticking, rabbeting, and all cope joints can made with this set. Due to width and depth of cut, a minimum of 5 hp is recommended. This lot includes a roller bearing, 3-1/2″ x1-1/4″ bore for pattern shaping and check rail cutter for 1/2 parting strip. Four additional square cutters are included to adjust milled shoulders and tenons for different window configurations.

They are unmarked, except for both depth stops are marked “PAT 84″ which is a Stanley marking. 7 dado or plow cutters, with nominal widths of 3/16″, 1/4″, 5/16″, 7/16″, 1/2″, 5/8″, and 3/4. 1 modified cutter that probably started out as a 7/8 dado or plow cutter. 4 bead cutters, with nominal cutting widths of 5/16″, 3/8″, 7/16″, and 1/2″. 1 sash cutter with the depth stop. And 1 tongue cutter with the depth stop and a nominal cutting gap of 1/4. The actual widths of the dado or plow cutters tends to be over the nominal widths. Overall length of most of the cutters is about 4-7/16″, and the shortest is the modified cutter which is about 4-5/16″ in length. That is quite a bit longer than a no-notch Stanley 45 cutter. Other than the modified cutter, condition of the cutters is generally good to very good, but a few have some pitting, with the pitting most noticeable on the 1/2″ dado, the 3/8″ and 7/16 beads, and the sash cutter. They are all reasonably clean. Some of them have some crossways scratches in the same location on the bevel side. I sell what I enjoy, and I collect antique woodworking tools and I enjoy photography! All of these have the special Stanley notch notches to engage the adjuster on the plane. Sargent notches are different than the Stanley 45 notch, so these will not fit properly in a Sargent 1080 or 1085 plane. From left to right in the front row in the first picture. One 1/8 plow or dado cutter, which is not numbered (there isn’t room for the number). Ten more plow or dado cutters, which are numbered 11 through 19 plus number 18-1/2. Those correspond to widths of 3/16″ through 1/2″ by 16ths, 5/8″, 3/4″, 7/8″, and the number 18-1/2 cutter is 13/16″. One 1-1/4 filletster cutter, which is number 9. From left to right in the back row in the first picture. One sash cutter with its depth stop, which is number 1. The depth stop is marked “PAT 84″. Two tongue cutters, 3/16″ and 1/4″, both with their depth stops. The 1/4″ tongue cutter is number 5, and the 3/16″ tongue cutter is number 6. And seven bead or beading cutters, 1/8″ to 1/2″ by 16ths. Those are numbers 21 through 27. Condition is mostly very good to excellent, and most of the cutter surfaces are clean and shiny. But there are some spots of rust and light pitting on some of the cutters, with the biggest spots on numbers 18 and 24. Please look closely at all 6 pictures. On one set of 18 cutters or blades or irons for a Stanley 12-250 wood plough or plow plane as pictured. Condition is New Old Stock, meaning that they are new and unused, but that they have been sitting around for a while. Some of the beading cutters have picked up a bit of rust up in the area where they are labeled. The plastic package is intact, but these tend to tear or cut easily, and some of the pockets are dirty from dirt brought in with the cutters. The plastic package has “18 pc plane cutter set” handwritten in Sharpie on the back. Each cutter is marked with the STANLEY notched rectangle logo, with the size, and with a part number that begins with 12-3 and ends with 2 more digits that vary with the size. 12 dado cutters: 4 mm, 6 mm, 9 mm, 12 mm, 1/8″, 3/16″, 1/4″, 5/16″, 3/8″, 1/2″, 5/8″, and 7/8″. 1 match or tongue cutter 1/4. 5 beading cutters: 1/8″, 3/16″, 1/4″, 3/8″, and 1/2. Will these cutters fit in my US made Stanley 45 you ask. I’ve seen some online opinions that say no, but I don’t believe everything I read online. The cutters listed here are each about 3-3/8 long, and about. 115 thick plus or minus a few thousandths, measured with calipers. The notches vary a bit for length (measured parallel to the length of the cutter) and vary a lot for depth (how far they are cut into the edge of the cutter). I measured a variety of cutters from a US made Stanley 45. The US cutters are of course longer, more like 3-5/8″ or 3-3/4″. The thickness varied from about. 125, with most of them closer to. I would say in general that the US cutters have shorter notches, notches that are more consistent for depth and that are in the middle of the range of depth for the British cutters, and the US notches are closer to the upper edge of the cutter. And of course the US notches are on the same side as the British notches. You can draw your own conclusions, but I got one of these British cutters to clamp up in a US made 45 with no difficulty, other than running the adjuster down lower.
