Our Hot Wire tools work best on rigid polystyrene foams, also known as expanded polystyrene (also known as EPS, Styrofoam or bead-board foam) and extruded polystyrene foam (also known as XEPS or XPS or insulation foam). NOTE: Polyurethane foam (aka upholstery foam) should not be cut with hot wire tools. It needs a ton of heat, gives off toxic fumes, and leaves a lot of melted plastic wherever it is cut.
